Frequently Asked Question
Before you begin: make sure you have received your personal .conf configuration file as an email attachment. You will need it in step 2.
1. Install WireGuard
Windows 11
- Open your browser and go to wireguard.com/install.
- Click Windows — Download to download the installer.
- Run the downloaded
wireguard-installer.exe. - If Windows shows a permission prompt (UAC), click Yes.
- Follow the installer: Next → Install → Finish. WireGuard will appear in your system tray.
macOS
- Open the App Store on your Mac.
- Search for WireGuard (by WireGuard Development Team) and click Get.
- Authenticate with your Apple ID or Touch ID if prompted.
- Once installed, open WireGuard from Applications or Launchpad.
Note: macOS will ask permission to add VPN configurations. You must click Allow for WireGuard to work.
2. Import your configuration file
Your personal .conf file was attached to the email in which you received this guide. Save it to your Desktop or Downloads folder before continuing.
Windows 11
- Open WireGuard from the Start menu or system tray.
- Click the Add Tunnel dropdown (bottom-left), then select Import tunnel(s) from file…
- Navigate to your
.conffile and click Open. - The tunnel will appear in the list on the left. Do not activate it yet.
macOS
- Open WireGuard from your Applications folder.
- Click Add Tunnel (or the + button), then select Import tunnel(s) from file…
- Select your
.conffile. When macOS asks to add a VPN configuration, click Allow. - The tunnel will appear in the list. Do not activate it yet.
Tip: once the tunnel is imported you can delete the .conf file from your Downloads or Desktop. The configuration is now stored securely inside WireGuard.
3. Activate and test the VPN
Activate the tunnel
Windows 11: Open WireGuard → select your tunnel from the list → click Activate. The status changes to Active with a green indicator.
macOS: Open WireGuard → select your tunnel → toggle the switch next to the tunnel name. The indicator turns green when active.
Test the connection
With the VPN active, open any browser and navigate to:
You should see an internal page confirming that your VPN connection is working.
What to do if it doesn't work

| Page loads correctly | VPN is working | You're all set. |
| Site can't be reached | Tunnel may not be active | Check the tunnel shows Active in WireGuard and try again. |
| Page loads with an error | Connected but access issue | Contact IT support (see below). |
Disconnect when done
- Windows: Open WireGuard → select the tunnel → click Deactivate.
- macOS: Open WireGuard → toggle the switch off.
Do not leave the VPN active when it is not needed. Disconnect after each session.
